Knocked up draft script by Judd Apatow

WSM TASK: Knocked up

1: Outline

2.Premise

The film starts off with the two strangers living their usaul daily lifes and meeting one night in a club. Throughout the film the two have to learn to get along with each other as well as changing their lives for this baby, but it doesn’t help the situation when they have friends who are married with children having a fight all the time. At the end they discover that they love each other and held there new baby girl.

3. Point of view

a.I think the outlook for the film is great. I think it’s mainly about a guy who life is on a down ward spiral with taking drugs and not having any money, and changing his ideals on life during this pregency.

b. I think the movie sets up after she gets pregnant. Because at the beginning it just introduces you the their characters and what their lives are like.

c. There are two main charaters Ben and Alison. They are both different people how have to get along for the baby. With the baby in this, the story would be a bit boring.

d. I think Ben is the most seeing. He is the one who sees that he needed to change to make thigs work.

e. I think its how they get along and how Alison friend Debbie is seeing that this is a bad idea, which made me think the same.

f. Looks like a normal life situation, but I think the comedy and the drugs add a litle difference from our world.

g. I think the turn in this film is where the married couple break up and they start to argue. To be honest I think there two turning points. After the argument Ben realizes that he needs to change for the better.

The writer for this is Judd Apatow and here is the stuff he has done.

Charlotte Thomson Gallery.

Went to see the Charlotte Thomson gallery at the Upstairs Gallery, Waterstones in Nottingham. Most of her work was based on mythical creatures like Medusa and mermiads. But she added a little sex appeal in to them. For example:
Cheshire Pussy

This image was part of a series of paintings reinventing the characters from Lewis Carrolls' Alice in Wonderland with this particular style in mind. The bold, graphic style lends itself well to logos & print media such as CD covers, posters etc. ~ Charlotte Thomson

Must of her work is done in watercolours, paint and pencil. Her mixed media blends really well together. She uses dull colours on her work and they come out really nicely.

I don't really like any of her work except for this:
Playing with Stars

Commission Request - Large colourful and positive artwork to be hung within a childrens' residential home in Nottingham. Appealing to a range of ages & both genders.
Commissioned by - Nottingham City Council.
Style - naive animal figurative art, mystical postraiture with attention to colour symbolism. ~ Charlotte Thomson

I really like the use of colours on this and how well drawn the animals are.

Group update and Mark Thomas's Coca Cola documentary

We have been having problems with our group. we was a four but one left to go to the other group and the other left to do another pathway, so it's just me and Richard in my group. I don't know how this happened to be honest.

Anyway we decided to do our documentary on a homeless person Richard knows. We are going to film him this Saturday. The documentary is going to be only 3 minutes long and will follow his life on a Saturday. We will see what he does all day and will be interviewing people on what they think of the Homeless, but it will still be more focused on him.

I have been watching documentaries all week as research, and the one that stood out the most to me was programme called Dispatches. They do loads of documentaries on different subjects. Last Monday was about Mark Thomas documentary on Coca Cola.

When I saw the title I thought this was going to be boring, but it wasn't. It was about how coca cola supported the Nazi's in World War two and how they are destroying farmers businesses in India by stealing their water supplies. There are even gangs going around killing people who work for Coco cola. I couldn't believe what I was watching, how could a product cause so much damage?

I liked this because it shows how to make a subject more interesting and I watched how he did the voice over, and how he interviews people on the subject.

Treatment exercise

In today's seminar, we had a practice exercise on how to do Treatments and Proposals for a screenplay. I only had 15 minutes to come up with a story and base the story on 5 character traits from the movie we had to see as homework. This is my story. With this I got to write a screenplay by 16/11/07. Writing has to be my weakest point in this course, not very good at it. But I am a little bit confident with this now. Jools really liked my story idea, and with a bit of help with the grammar and stuff it came out really good.

Treatment

  • A man named Gary who just finished his training and join the military only to find out what happened to his brother.
  • He is very stubborn and loyal to what his really mission is, and a strong solider
  • Under cover to find answers
  • He just follows their everyday order while sneaking around to find out clues, so he can ruin their plan.
  • Takes place in India 2018, in a war.

2018. Gary a rookie solider joins the military on a goal to find out what happened to his brother in the war against India. No one will talk about his death, which makes Gary determined to find out more. As he trains in India, he starts to hear rumours of something strange going on inside the military. Something that is inhuman. Gary decides to go under cover to find out clues to reveal this plan and its link to his brother’s death.

The documentary proposal exercise still confuses me. I hope we get a lecture on how to do it. Jools told us the brief of it, but I would like to know more to understand it better. This exercise has really helped me out and I help out with the character's course work.
